Wow and double wow, haven't had Cantonese style food like its made here in a long time. We ordered the sticky rice stuffed in chicken, the skin was so crunchy, so good. Even though it's not on the menu we ordered my daughter's favorite dish of steamed pork, perfection. If you crave something that's not on the menu they'll accommodate you if possible, like a secret menu. We also had Westlake beef soup, tofu topped with minced shrimp, Mongolian beef and finally mustard greens with black mushrooms. This will be our go to SF place for authentic Cantonese food.

Dragon River is my go to neighborhood Cantonese restaurant, when I want great food at a reasonable price. This place is a family run business that takes pride in its food quality. The ambience is very typical casual Chinese, but the dishes are prepared similarly to the higher end restaurants in the area (think Harbor View and Koi Palace). Winnie, the owner here, is delightful; truly appreciative of customers. I often special order dishes that typically require a longer preparation time like sticky rice stuffed chicken ("No Mai Gai"), whole winter melon chicken/seafood soup ("Dong Gwa Jung") and Peking Duck. Other dishes we order while we're at the restaurant are lobster noodles, haka tofu, black bean sauce clams, beef chow fun, salted fish pork patty, and many other traditional Cantonese dishes. Never been disappointed. Always surprised at the reasonable price when the check comes! Recently, this restaurant, as have many others in the Richmond District, have had their front windows and doors smashed and interiors vandalized. As a native San Franciscan, I feel we should do everything to support these small mom and pop businesses by patronizing them whenever we can. Dragon River is one that I have no problem returning again and again.

We needed to get some take out for the relatives and a friend recommended this restaurant and to give it a try. Arriving around 6:30 on a Saturday, the restaurant was full and two parties were waiting outside for a table. Having checked out the menu on Yelp, we had our three items to order and walked up to the counter and told the waitress that we ordering take-out, placed our order and paid. She said the order would be ready in 20 minutes, but it was closer to 30 minutes. Our orders: Beef and spinach - generous amount of beef. Sweet and sour fish fillet - nicely battered fish. Good ratio of veggies to fish. Beef chow fun - good "wok hei", the smoky charred aroma from the wok. Wished there was a little more fun noodles. Overall, the food was good and relatives approve. Good to have another option in the area to order food for them.

Food was delicious. The portions are modest. The quality of their food is higher than most casual Chinese restaurants. It felt like they had a strong presence with the community in the Richmond neighborhood. I will definitely return.

Excellent food to welcome the Linar New year of the Wooden Dragon. The stuffed chicken with sticky rice was great and must order way in advanced. Always excellent flavorful dish fatty beef part of animal dish but I forgot English name for it. All restaurants have this. Westlake Minced Beef Soup was popping hot and yummy on raining day. I liked it. Juicy Black Mushroom with Mustard Green was excellent and soft. Fish Fillet with Tender Greens was very soft and excellent .The okay dishes were Roast Pork with Taro Clay Pot with not much pork but a very hot dish. The Peking Spare Ribs and stir fry beef and pepper were also okay normal dishes, no wow factor here. All food well made and I would return back here. Friendly service and not too large restaurant. Yummy in my tummy. And yes i would return.

Mom and Pop hidden gem in the Richmond: Dragon River. We went there with a group of 10 and ordered the following: *Peking duck (pre-order) * Sticky rice stuffed fried chicken (pre-order) * Oyster omelette: fluffy, light and tasty * Steamed pork cake with salted fish * Clams in black bean sauce: perfectly seasoned, lots of 'wok-air' * Winter melon soup (pre-order): incredibly tasty * Lobster over egg noodles * Hakka tofu * Claypot tofu with minced meat and salted fish: perfect with rice All dishes were super tasty and delicious. Brought back memories of my family's homecooking. This is a no-frills family restaurant. Great value and food cooked with pride. Service is warm and friendly - what you would expect of a family restaurant. Parking is ample.
